January concerts

A tribute to Wendy Fine, South Africa’s first International Opera Star, sees South African opera sensation Pumeza Matshikiza, in association with The Cape Town City Ballet, take the stage  to celebrate Wendy’s 80^th birthday on January 3 at the Artscape Theatre Centre.

Sharing the stage with Ms. Matshikiza are rising opera stars Siphokazi Molteno George, Sipho Fubesi and Theo Magongoma accompanied by Juan Burgers. Ballet dancers Xola Putye, Cleo Ames, Megan Henegan and Stephen Underwood will equally thrill audiences en pointe to the tunes of Swing.

She then travels to Spain to perform in the Auditori de Girona on January 27. The GIO celebrates its 7th anniversary with a selection of arias, openings and intermezzos by great opera composers. like Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, Rossini and Dvořák. Ms. Matshikiza and Italian conductor Carlo Bernini star together in this momentous event.
